Santa Barbara, Calif. – The Orange County Riptide were unable to avenge themselves in their second matchup against the Santa Barbara Foresters during Saturday night’s game in a 7-1 loss. The Riptide’s record now stands at 0-2 against the Foresters, bringing their record to 8-5 this summer.

The two Southern Californian teams had a pitchers duel within the first few innings, the Foresters jumped on Texas State right-hander Tony Robie after seeing his pitch arsenal through four innings. Robie held the Foresters to just one run in the first three innings of the ballgame, but things began to fall apart in the fourth inning. Of the 21 batters Robie faced, he struck out five and walked four batters, while allowing four runs on six hits.

Only two of the runs that crossed the plate against Robie were earned, as his defense behind him didn’t have their best performance. Orange County committed four errors on the day that resulted in two unearned runs scored against Robie, one in the third inning and one in the fourth inning.

The Riptide struggled at the plate as they were unable to score a run until the top of the ninth inning due to a dominant nine-strikeout performance by Foresters starting pitcher Nick Nastrini (UCLA). Five of the Riptide starters were unable to get a hit, and the team combined for 16 strikeouts at the plate throughout nine full innings. Orange County also combined for a total of just four hits, the lowest number of hits the team has recorded in a game this summer.

UNLV sluggers Jack Thomas-Wold and Edarian Williams were two of the four Riptide starters to get a hit in today’s contest. The only RBI for Orange County came from Williams’ ninth inning ground-rule double, which allowed teammate Thomas-Wold to score. Along with Thomas-Wold and Williams, Davis Diaz (Vanderbilt) and Kolton Freeman (Dartmouth) were the other two riptide to acquire a hit, but were unable to come around to score.

University of Illinois right-hander Andrew Pogue entered in relief for Robie, as he allowed two hits, one run, and one walk to the seven batters he faced in a two inning span. University of Tennessee righty Charez Butcher made an appearance on the mound in the seventh and eighth inning. Although he only gave up one hit, he struggled to find the strike zone as he walked six batters, which resulted in two runs after facing 12 batters.

The Riptide will have another opportunity to seek vengeance when they face the Arroyo Seco Saints on Sunday June 27th, another opponent that came out on top in their first matchup against each other. Sunday’s game will take place at Jackie Robinson Stadium at 6:05 PM PDT.
