After a one year hiatus in 2020 due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, the Orange County Riptide will resume play within the California Collegiate League (CCL) in 2021 with a brand new coaching staff.

The OC Riptide will be led by Mitch LeVier, who will begin his first year at the helm as Head Coach. LeVier coached for the OC Riptide in 2018 as an assistant and will serve as the OC Riptide’s Field Manager and Hitting Instructor in 2021.

Joining LeVier on his staff includes Tim Brown, serving as Associate Head Coach. Brown, formerly the Head Baseball Coach at Riverside City College, spent six years as the Assistant Baseball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at UC Santa Barbara. Brown has also coached collegiate summer baseball across North America including the Cape Cod League (Hyannis Harbor Hawks), the New England Collegiate Baseball League (Vermont Mountaineers), Great Lakes Collegiate Summer League (Lake Erie Monarchs) and most recently, the Kelowna B.C Falcons of the West Coast League.

The pitchers will be coached by Randy Barber who currently serves as the Pitching Coach for at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, AZ. Much like Brown, Barber is no stranger to the rigors and challenges of collegiate summer baseball. Barber previously coached for the Alaska Goldpanners in the Alaska League and has also served as a professional baseball scout within the Detroit Tigers organization based primarily in Arizona.

Assisting Barber with the pitchers will be Cody Gutierrez. Gutierrez played college baseball for Graceland University in Iowa and is currently the head varsity baseball coach for his alma mater, Buena Park High School.

Andrew Ramos and Sam Tetrault round out the six member, 2021 OC Riptide coaching staff. Ramos previously coached at University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky and in 2019, coached for one of the Riptide’s CCL Southern Division rivals, the San Luis Obispo Blues. Ramos is currently a Graduate Assistant Coach for Holy Names University in Oakland, Calif. and his role with the Riptide will be assistant coach with focus on working with the catchers.

Tetrault will serve as the Graduate Assistant Coach for the OC Riptide in 2021. Tetrault is currently a senior student manager and bullpen catcher for the University of Arizona baseball team, serving under head coach Jay Johnson and assistant coach Nate Yeskie. Tetrault has a vast knowledge of baseball analytics software and data gathering methods and will also assist with the analytics aspect of coaching the OC Riptide in 2021.
