Irvine, Calif. – The Orange County Riptide started their summer off with a hot start, defeating the San Diego Waves 13-0 on Tuesday night at the Orange County Great Park. Stellar pitching combined with hot bats powered the Riptide to their first win of the 2021 summer ball season.

Noah Owen (pictured above), senior pitcher from Washington State, started today’s game on the mound. He struck out six batters within the first two innings, allowing just two hits and zero runs. Owen was not the only pitcher that had the Waves confused in the box. Total combined, Riptide pitching recorded 22 punch outs while only surrendering three hits on the night.

Emilio Rosas, third baseman from the University of Southern California, ignited the hit parade in the second inning with a two-RBI single to right field. The Riptide scored an additional two more runs later in the inning making it a 4-0 ballgame.

Entering the third inning with a comfortable four-run lead, left-handed pitcher Spencer Edwards (Cornell) entered the game and struck out two batters while allowing one hit and zero runs.

The OC Riptide continued their offensive surge into the fourth inning, putting up a six spot in the run column making the score 11-0 through four innings. Emilio Rosas and Reed Spenrath highlighted the inning as they earned their second hits of the game and helped carry the Riptide to a significant run surplus.

The Riptide’s pitchers were lights out all game as they held their opponent to a total of zero runs and three hits and issued one walk throughout the entirety of the game.

Right handers Andrew Pogue (Illinois), Hunter Ash, Jake McBride and Jared Plank (Rice) pitched innings five through eight. They punched out a combined nine batters, while allowing an impressive zero hits and zero runs.

The Orange County Riptide pitching staff tallied a total of 20 strikeouts throughout the entire game, a great way to kick off their 40-game summer.

The Riptide leave Wednesday to travel to Alaska and will play play six games starting June 10th.The Riptide will play the Alaska Goldpanners for three games June 10-12 and then will be play a three game round robin series with the Goldpanners, Bercovich Collegiate and the San Diego Waves.

A rematch of the Riptide vs. Waves will be played on June 13th at Growden Park, AK.
