Oaks Series Secured; Riptide Win 6-4

Jul 3, 2023 | News, Riptide

Irvine, Calif. – The Orange County Riptide defeated the Conejo Oaks 6-4 in their final game of the series at the Great Park. They continued to ride their victory wave, claiming the series, winning 6-4. This win came at a crucial time for the team, following a rough week where they suffered three consecutive losses.

Ben Hansen (BYU) started on the mound for the Riptide and ended his outing in the 1st inning with a strikeout. He continued his strong performance, pitching for five innings, accumulating a total of five strikeouts, and maintaining an impressive 2.19 ERA.

The Riptide’s bats came alive in the 3rd inning, with Grady Morgan (Fresno State) hitting an RBI double to right-center, scoring Isaiah Morales (Saddleback College) and Nick Upstill (Pepperdine). Building on that momentum, Reese Chapman (Tennessee) shot a ball deep into right for an RBI single, bringing home Morgan.

Reese Chapman (Tennessee) continued to shine in the 5th, delivering an RBI double into right field, and bringing home Isaiah Morales (Saddleback). Colby Canales (Creighton) joined in on the fun with an RBI double, scoring Connor McGuire (CBU) and Reese Chapman (Tennessee), extending the team’s lead to 6-0.

Speaking about his achievement of reaching 10 RBIs after three games, Reese Chapman (Tennessee) humbly acknowledged the success of his teammates, stating, “I’m getting pretty lucky with guys getting on before me, so I’m just trying to get a nice barrel to the ball. Right now it’s working and guys are scoring and I’m getting RBIs.”

Although the Riptide made four defensive errors, their early lead in the 3rd inning helped them overcome those mistakes. Despite it not being their best defensive outing, they still produced great diving plays and managed to secure the win, even with the Oaks‘ comeback attempts late in the game.

The Orange County Riptide aim to continue their winning streak on July 5th at 7:00 p.m. when they face the MLB Academy Barons at the Great Park.
