Coaching Staff

The OC Riptide coaches balance numerous demands to help maintain the integrity of the OC Riptide as an organization and the ever-changing lanscape of collegiate summer ball.

 

Providing players with high level instruction to enhance their development while showcasing talent to professional scouts in addition to instilling a culture of teamwork and winning presents a unique challenge for the Riptide coaches.

Riptide Head Coach

Bryan Evans

After serving as the pitching coach for the Riptide in 2023 & 2024, Bryan Evans was promoted to head coach following the conclusion of the 2024 season. When not coaching the Riptide, Evans is the Pitching Coach for Golden West College. Evans works with Riptide pitchers in addition to his head coaching duties.

An Orange County native, Evans played at Tesoro High School where he still holds the record for overall wins. As a senior in high school, Evans was named Pacific Coast League Player of the Year as a senior. He attended UC Davis and in the 2006 season, worked his way into the Friday night starter role as a freshman.

The Florida Marlins selected Evans in the 14th round (418th overall) of the 2008 MLB Draft. In a 12 year professional baseball career from 2008 to 2019, Evans played within three MLB organizations. (Marlins, Colorado Rockies and Seattle Mariners). While with the Marlins, he advanced to Triple-A (New Orleans Zephyrs) and again to Triple-A with the Mariners (Tacoma Rainiers).

Evans also played winter ball in the Dominican Republic and in Mexico. He won the Caribbean World Series with Mexico in 2013. While playing in the Dominican Republic, recorded the seventh best ERA for the decade. He also won Best Starting Pitcher in the 2018 Caribbean World Series.

After professional baseball, Evans turned his focus to coaching. Evans is single and currently lives in Mission Viejo, Calif. He earned his degree in business management from the University of Phoenix.

Meet the coaches that will guide the OC Riptide during the tenth anniversary within the California Collegiate League.

Grant Mayeaux

Grant Mayeaux

Director of Baseball Operations, Hitting, Infielders, 3rd Base Coach

Grant Mayeaux is the newest coach to join the OC Riptide coaching staff.

Mayeaux currently works as an assistant coach for El Camino College and most recently the head coach for the San Diego SunRays. The SunRays played the entire 2024 season on the road, barnstorming throughout the CCL South Division last summer.

At El Camino College, Mayeaux works with hitters, outfielders and assists with recruiting future players in addition to teaching classes in the Department of Kinesiology.

Andrew Ramos

Andrew Ramos

Catchers, Bullpen Coach

Andrew Ramos begins his fourth year coaching for the OC Riptide. Ramos will handle coaching the catchers and serve as bullpen coach in 2025.

Ramos is no stranger to the CCL. Prior to joining the Riptide coaching staff, Ramos began his career in the CCL as part of the San Luis Obispo Blues coaching staff from 2019-2020.

Ramos coaches in the Community College ranks for Cypress College, a member of the prestigious Orange Empire Conference. At Cypress, Ramos handles catchers and manages the bullpen as he will with the Rptide in 2025.

Zach Thomas

Outfielders, Base Running, 1st Base Coach

Zach Thomas returns to the OC Riptide in 2025.

Thomas played for the Riptide in 2022 and returned to Orange County in 2023 as a Volunteer Assistant Coach.

Currently the Director of Operations for Utah Tech, Thomas lives in Long Beach, Calif. during the summers away from St. George, Utah.

Who are we?

The Orange County Riptide is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3)
summer collegiate baseball club that competes
yearly from June to August. Home games are played at
the Great Park in Irvine, Calif.

The OC Riptide is mainly comprised of Division I players with
a small mix of Division II and top notch Division III, NAIA and Junior College players. Players from all over the country come to California for the summer while they pursue their dream of potentially playing professional baseball one day.
