The OC Riptide is an elite Orange County baseball team with an affiliation to the National Baseball Congress (NBC) as well as the premier collegiate league in California, the California Collegiate League (CCL). The CCL specifically competes at the NCAA Division I level and prepares players for professional baseball.
The Orange County Riptide provides outstanding opportunities for players to compete with wood bats and professional baseballs. The Riptide Baseball Club provides a premier player environment, focusing on competing and the player returning to college a better player and teammate than when they arrived. The Riptide provides an outstanding environment for learning, developing, improving and obtaining confidence in baseball skills and abilities and in life outside baseball.
The Riptide is committed to providing all players participating a fair amount of playing time, plenty of opportunity to enhance baseball skills, highly competitive baseball as well as enhance performance. The Riptide will participate in 40 regular season games in 2021 (30 CCL games). The 40 game season gives players ample opportunity to sharpen their skills all while not taxing their bodies after competing in a full NCAA Division I season in the Spring.
Our Players:
The majority of the Orange County Riptide roster is composed of Division I players with a small mix of Division II and top notch Division III, NAIA and Junior College players.
The OC Riptide brings players to California from traditional D1 baseball powerhouses like Vanderbilt, Texas Tech, Univ. of Miami, Arkansas, Tennessee, Dallas Baptist and Georgia Southern to name a few. Out of state players will stay with Host Families or with family and friends that live in the Orange County area. Numerous out of state players prefer to play in the California Collegiate League and for the OC Riptide specifically, citing the high level of competition combined with warm temperatures, low humidity and the entertainment options in Southern California when not playing baseball.
Local players from Division I programs like UC Irvine, Cal State Fullerton, USC and UCLA get a chance to stay home and continue to compete at a high level. Local players can attend summer school or work part-time while still getting the competitive play they need to enhance or keep their skills sharp. Numerous previously uncommitted Junior College players have received offers to attend four-year universities prior to the completion of the OC Riptide season.
Our League
Founded in 1993, the California Collegiate League (CCL) provides the same atmosphere as other summer ball leagues like the Cape Cod League, Northwoods League, West Coast League, Alaska Baseball League or the Coastal Plain League.
The CCL is associated with the National Baseball Congress and hosts a 30+ game championship summer season which includes a North vs. South All-Star / Prospects game. The top CCL clubs compete in an end of the summer Division I style playoff, deciding on the field who is the best team in the CCL.
CCL players use wooden bats and professional-level balls to further their development as potential professional ballplayers and enjoys a long standing relationship with Major League Baseball.
