Riptide’s Late Effort Falls Short in 11-3 Loss to Arroyo Seco Saints

Jun 15, 2024 | News, CCL, Riptide

PASADENA, Calif – The Riptide faced a loss against the Arroyo Seco Saints for the second time this season at Jackie Robinson Field in Pasadena, California. The Riptide could not get a rally going until the top of the ninth, but at that point, it was too late to pull out a win.

To begin the game, the Saints put up five runs off of Riptide’s Luke Sterner who pitched 1 ½ innings. Notable hits from the Saints’ Lopez, Livingston, and Donnelly enabled the Saints to take a large lead early in the game.

Tommy McGuire from the Riptide took over on the mound in the bottom of the second and shut down the Saints as he fanned five strikeouts and allowed one run.

The Riptide bats were dormant through eight innings unable to score a run. Hits from Brendan Wilkinson, Rocco Gump, Ace Reese, and Jackson Kemmerer put the Riptide in a position to score in the earlier innings but were stranded on the base path.

The Riptide took advantage of a few pitching errors in the top of the ninth and were able to get on the board to avoid a shutout. With a leadoff hit-by-pitch to Nathan Cadena, followed by walks from Rocco Gump, Jackson Kemmerer, and Anthony Marnell, the Riptide was able to score three runs, making the final score 11-3.

The Riptide squad looks to redeem their loss tonight at the Great Park in Irvine.
