Riptide Fall to Saints 7-3, Lose Home Field for Tuesday’s Playoff Rematch

Jul 27, 2024 | News

IRVINE, Calif – The Riptide suffered a tough loss tonight against the Arroyo Seco Saints. In a highly-anticipated contest between the two teams, tonight’s loss puts the Saints ahead of the Riptide to give the Saints the advantage in having the home game for the playoff match on Tuesday.

The Riptide struck first with a no-doubt home run from Michael Diaz to get on the board in the bottom of the second. The team followed it up in the third by adding on two more runs from an RBI single from JC Allen and a fielder’s choice hit by Rocco Gump.

DingersPhoto 6 1Although quiet through the first few innings, the Saints made some noise in the fourth. With an RBI flyout, a 2-run RBI, and an RBI flyout from the Saints lineup, the squad could take the lead 4-3.

The Saints did not stop in the fourth, however. In the eighth, a two-run single and an RBI single scored three more runs to put the Saints on top 7-3.

Both teams did not score in the ninth, and the final score remained at 7-3.

When Connor Spencer was asked about the loss and how he looks to seek redemption against the Saints on Tuesday night in the playoffs, he said, “I have a game plan going in. We’re not just going to show up and have some fun. It will be calculated.”

The Riptide squad looks to return from this loss tomorrow night against the MLB Academy Barons at the Great Park.
