PASADENA, Calif. — The OC Riptide offense erupted for 20 runs on the road against the Arroyo Seco Saints on Saturday, delivering an explosive performance in Pasadena.
In the top of the first inning, the Riptide came out swinging as Bradley Navarro (University of Utah) led off with a home run to left center, setting the tone for the inning. Jake Evans (Cal St Long Beach) then crushed a ball off the wall for a stand-up double, bringing up Issac Cadena (USC), who singled to right, scoring Evans. With one runner on, Carter Danz (Northwestern University) roped a triple down the right field line, bringing home Cadena. Danz crossed the plate after a wild pitch as the Riptide ended the inning leading 4-0.
The Riptide erupted for four runs in the second. Luke Johnson (Cornell) cleared the bases with a three-run triple, and Montgomery followed with an RBI double after the bases were loaded on a single, walk, and hit-by-pitch.
A couple of hits in the third and fourth innings led to two more runs crossing the plate as the Saints chip away at the OC lead.
The ‘Tide added two more in the top of the fifth, Riley Hunsaker (California Baptist University) singled, followed by a Jake Lambdin (Duke University) walk. A fielder’s choice by Navarro brought in a run, and Evans ripped an RBI single to left, scoring Lambdin as the Riptide lead 10-3.
The Riptide exploded for 10 runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by a Navarro two-run triple, Evans’ two-run single, and RBI hits from Johnson and Lambdin. Multiple walks, a passed ball, and an error also helped fuel the big frame.
The game is postponed due to curfew in the bottom of the 8th the Riptide lead 20-8.
