Santa Barbara, CA – In a thrilling matchup on Saturday, the Orange County Riptide traveled to face the top-ranked Foresters in a CCL showdown. Despite a valiant effort and a late-game rally, the Riptide ultimately fell to the Foresters 8-7 in a contest that highlighted the offensive potential of the Tide.
The Foresters wasted no time, plating three runs in the first inning. However, the Riptide refused to back down, demonstrating their defensive skills in the innings to follow.
The Riptide’s offense came alive in the fourth inning when Jake Brown drew a walk, setting the stage for an Ace Reese’s home run that brought the score to 3-2. This momentum carried into the fifth inning, where the Riptide’s patience at the plate paid off. JC Allen, Bren Wilkinson, and Camden Bates all drew walks, loading the bases.

Michael Diaz’s sacrifice hit brought Allen home, followed by Patrick Hackworth’s base hit that drove in two more runs. Jake Brown and Ace Reese continued the rally with base hits of their own, pushing the Riptide ahead 5-3.
However, the Foresters responded quickly and forcefully in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs to reclaim the lead at 8-5. The Riptide slowed down for an inning, but made some noise again in the seventh. After loading the bases through walks, Ace Reese’s sacrifice fly allowed Diaz to score, narrowing the gap to 8-6.
The ninth inning saw a determined Riptide refusing to give up. Ace Reese led off with a base hit, followed by Carson McEntire’s double. Rocco Gump’s sacrifice fly brought Reese home, bringing the Riptide within one run. Despite their best efforts, the rally fell just short as the game ended 8-7 in favor of the Foresters.
Head Coach Connor Spencer expressed pride in his team’s performance, stating, “I’m proud of the way the offense hit today. It was one of the more fun ball games this summer. Even though it ended in a loss, I think it was quality baseball today.”
The game highlighted the Riptide’s offensive capabilities: Ace Reese had a particularly strong outing, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Patrick Hackworth and Jake Brown also delivered clutch performances, each recording important base hits in crucial moments. While the loss was disappointing, the Riptide demonstrated their ability to compete with the top teams in the league. Their resilience in the face of an early deficit displayed true potential, particularly as the team gears up for the playoffs.
