Santa Barbara, Calif. – The Orange County Riptide lost to the Santa Barbara Foresters 9-4 Sunday. The Riptide fell behind early in the first inning and could never mount a comeback as the Foresters started out fast and kept adding onto their lead.
Slow Offensive Start
It was a tough day for the Riptide offensively as they failed to mount any type of threat. The team failed to reach base through 4 ⅓ innings, after a single by Connor McGuire (Cal Baptist).
Grant MacArthur (San Joaquin Delta College) pinch hit in the seventh inning and hit a home run to left field on the first pitch he saw. The solo home run by MacArthur was his first home run of the summer. The Riptide scored three runs in the ninth but the deficit was too big to overcome. McGuire and MacArthur were both tied for the team lead in hits today with two apiece.

The Riptide used five pitchers today and the Foresters were finding ways to put balls in play and avoid the defenders. As a staff they only issued two walks, but allowed 12 hits. Matthew Maloney (UNLV) made his fourth start of the season for the Riptide and bounced back after getting knocked around for a couple runs in the first. Maloney was able to give the Riptide two more effective innings.
Trevor Meisner (Utah Tech) entered and struck out two batters on 1 ⅓ innings. While Ryan Hernandez (Cal Baptist) pitched an inning of relief himself, also striking out two batters.
